Introduction

Ratan Tata leadership style is characterized by strong focus on strategy, rigorous execution, and continuous innovation. Under Ratan Tata’s leadership, the Tata Group has become one of the most successful and diversified conglomerates in the world. The Group has a portfolio of businesses that include telecom, automotives, and aerospace. Under Ratan Tata’s leadership, the Tata Group has also developed a strong presence in the United States and Europe.

Leadership style

I feel Ratan Tata’s leadership style is outstanding. The Government of India bestowed upon him the Padma Vibhushan, the nations highest civilian honor, in 2008. After all, he is recognized for transforming the Tata Group from an Indian-based conglomerate to an internationally competitive brand. As Chairperson of Tata Sons, Ratan increased the firms income to more than one billion US dollars without engaging in wrongdoing or taking bribes (Deresky, 2017). In 1996, he expanded his charitable footprint by creating the Tata Council for Community Initiatives (TCCI). The TCCI was formed to supervise the groups CSR efforts.

Community development to prosperity

The strategy of the TCCI has been to move people from welfare to self-reliance and the
firm from community development to prosperity. Under TCCI, Ratan has developed a Social
Aude Tata Model, Social Tata Assessment, Responsibility and Accountability Framework, the
Sustainable Human Development Tata Index, and the Tata Environment Group Network. In the
meantime, Ratan kept his principles and honesty (Deresky, 2017). I think, however, Ratan could
bring the heritage of the Tata’s forward towards its real meaning and intent.

History of organizational commitment

Tata group has an reputable history of organizational commitment and has widely recognized for its sustainable development and values such as Tatas do not involve incorruption, and Tatas don’t get involved in local politics. Under Ratan Tata’s leadership, the group continued on this heritage by merging its sub-companies in India while also establishing a international market presence. India has been undergoing a period in which excessive power was concentrated at the top of the political leaders and their friends. As a result, the government has dominated the economy, marked by nepotism, favoritism, and corruption.

Final thought

According to some analysts, the vast majority of Indian businesspeople worked in oligopoly facets of the business where the authorities had granted them particular advantages (Deresky, 2017). Despite competing in this industry, the company had built an empire based on the central tenets of trusted and honest, to the point that they had become a fundamental element of the Tata brand.
